I just checked to see which version of make I was getting under Cygwin, and
it is the one in c:\WinAVR-20080402\bin, and I just tried to compile under a
DOS cmd prompt, and I get the same errors I listed before.

My path when running under cmd.exe is
C:...\mmdev>echo %PATH%
C:\WinAVR-20080402\bin;C:\WinAVR-20080402\utils\bin;C:\Perl\bin\;C:\WINDOWS
\system32;...
