Almost anything, including 20 years old Procomm for DOS, makes a good 
alternative to HyperTerminal IMHO.  I know of a number of good terminal 
programs for Windows (I use Tera Term Pro mostly, but uCon also looks 
nice).  What I am interested in here is alternatives to minicom for Linux.
