I'd be interested, since we have it too in SymPy - we use pyglet:

http://www.pyglet.org/

it's a pure python library for 3D things, works on windows, mac os,
linux and then our scripts to do nice 3D plots.

Is there some page of the 3D plotting in Axiom? Is there some release
of the program?
