That is the problem. GCC 2.7.2.3 does not work on Solaris 2.6.
GCC 2.7.2.3 can compile "hello world" programs on Solaris 2.6. But it
cannot compile many important programs, and I would include OpenSSH in
that list. You must upgrade to GCC 2.8 or later. I suggest GCC
2.95.3. You can also use GCC 3.0.2 if you're feeling more
adventurous.
I'm not guessing about the incompatibility of GCC 2.7.2.x and Solaris 2.6.
I contributed the Solaris 2.6 support to GCC in September 1997, but
that contribution wasn't integrated until GCC 2.8 (released December 1997).
