The package in question may have a script to do the rerunning of the autotools for you. Typically, it's named bootstrap or autogen.sh; be sure to check its developer documentation, or ask them to provide you with an updated package. Hope that helps.
Yes, it did! Now I understand that ltmain.sh is not given by the software package but it is $LIBTOOLIZE that usually just copies it from its own repository – given there is not already another ltmain.sh script or it was invoked with --force. Before using libtool 1.5.23a I was working with another version of libtool, and 'make distclean' did not remove these elder version. So I was trapped ...
