Which version of m4 do you have installed?  Is
/mtg/tool/powerpc-AIX5.2/bin/m4 something you built yourself?  I doubt
this is a manifestation of bugs reported on some platforms when using m4
1.4.10, but I'm asking anyway.

Also, this particular test depends on kill.  Perhaps your system kill
doesn't send the expected SIGINT to the shell?  But then we'd expect a
skip.  I certainly can't reproduce things, so I'm not quite sure what to
suggest trying next.

A word of advice: it is considered poor netiquette to send mail with such
