Yes, as I mentioned, Eli is working on GDB 7.0, but he has very little
free time. (So little that he didn't notice all my mentions of this
bug and its workaround until it bit him!)

I don't think that's necessary at this point. *NEW!* Andris Pavenis
seems to have fixed the bug (at least with 2.05b) via a small patch
(see below):

I just tested with the old / small / useless "uname" bug snippet from
Gordon S. as well as with ZILE 2.3.11, and it seems to work okay. I'm
not saying I don't expect anyone to continue to use older, buggier
shells (as people never upgrade, old CWSDPMIs still float around out
there, ugh), but at least "officially" a fixed upload should be
forthcoming (already exists, see below, but it's not on the official
FTP sites or Zip Picker or anything ... yet).
