Well, that should first have a GCS change. Since every such GCS change
creates a small incompatibility (package trees using mixed autotools
versions may not cope with a --lispdir passed from toplevel), such
changes should not be done lightly, and maybe batched.
If you choose to go that way: Another thing to think about in this case
is whether we want something like --sharedlibdir. It could default to
bindir on w32 systems and libdir everywhere else, and would be the
intended location for the DLL/.so files (and could make for a nicer
libtool solution that -bindir). The suggestion came from Niels Möller
(Cc:ed) on a non-public list.
