Thanks for the report. As I see it, this is not a bug in autoconf, but a
limitation of your chosen development platform, and you have done the correct
workaround. I don't see how autoconf can change anything to react better to
mingw without some user intervention in setting up your mingw environment to
match layouts more typical of common porting environments, so for now I'm
closing this as works-for-me.
