It sounds like you have a fix, then: just upgrade to the latest automake.
Or, if that's not possible for some reason, just propagate the latest
config.guess into your autoconf source directory, before running 'configure'.
I expect that there are other solutions as well.
At some point we'll generate a new Autoconf release and at that point
we'll have the latest config.guess, but there's no deadline for this.
