Another problem with this setup is that it results in my mailer dumping everything into my junk folder - where they are difficult to find because there is no indication in the "subject" line that this come from this mailing list

The subject is for humans.  Automated filtering can use other fields
such as List-Id.

I had read the first one of these documents before and wasn't convinced. Maybe the real problem is that mailing lists are not really a suitable framework for public forums.

On the other hand newsgroups do not usually provide the high-quality feedback I received on my IFS variable thread.
