Description:
[Detailed description of the problem, suggestion, or complaint.]
The ASCII character \001 breaks the escape sequence
interpretation.
./bash -c "echo \^A\[bs\]"
        returns
^A\[bs]
Please note the backslash remains. It should return ^A[bs].
        Note in comparison that
./bash -c "echo \^B\[bs\]"
        returns
^B[bs]
        as expected.

Repeat-By:
        ./bash -c "echo \^A\[bs\]"
where ^A is the ASCII character \001

Fix:
[Description of how to fix the problem. If you don't know a
fix for the problem, don't include this section.]
