I can't reproduce this using bash-4.2.45 or bash-4.3 on Mac OS X or RHEL5. I'm using Mac OS X Terminal, if that makes a difference.
I just got the same problem again on 4.2.45. I wonder how can I make a testcase, short of using a keylogger. I use konsole in kde4, if this makes any difference. When the problem occurs, it "eats up" my command prompt. It gets shorter and shorter when I press Up/Down and the damaged history line shows up. Bash writes some wrong control sequences to the terminal. Upgraded to 4.3.0, will see if this will happen again.
