Building the Linux kernel can lead to this error:
arch/cris/mm/mm.o: In function `free_initmem':
arch/cris/mm/mm.o(.text+0x1e0): relocation truncated to fit: R_CRIS_32

make[3]: *** [vmlinux] Error 1
Apparently a 64-bit-host problem. To be investigated.
