It looks like a make problem. I got
/export/home/hjl/bugs/binutils/build/L/BLD1
address@hidden BLD1]$ make
make[1]: Entering directory `/export/home/hjl/bugs/binutils/build/P/BLD1'
make[2]: Entering directory
`/export/home/hjl/bugs/binutils/build/P/BLD1/libiberty'
...
Make thinks I am in /export/home/hjl/bugs/binutils/build/P/BLD1 instead of
/export/home/hjl/bugs/binutils/build/L/BLD1.
