Damn! I have recompiled gcc so many times over the last few weeks that I have
lost track of what I did to make the crash manifest.
I have just recompiled the whole binutils / gcc suit with clean source code -
and the compile worked, and the resulting compiler successfully created a
"hello world" program that executes on an IBM AS/400 (= aix5.1.0.0).
What I will try overnight is to expand the gcc compile to include more
languages (current build only enables c,c++) to see if that makes any
difference.
My apologies, I guess that I messed up the initial configuration command on the
build that failed. I think the best is that this bug is marked resolved, and in
the event that I stumble across the error again, I will open a new bug with
proper details around the crash.
