Presumably since the creation of the pdp11-aout target 20 years ago, a symbol
defined in a linker script that is referenced as a global variable in a source
file will be shown as undefined by nm:

Separately, symbols with the MSB set will be shown sign-extended to 64 bits,
whereas PDP11 addresses are only 16 bits.
