Actually, there is a change in powerpc gas that might be the trigger for this
sort of problem. The ".machine" assembler directive when given a cpu now
disables the effect of -many on the command line or in a previous ".machine".
If that is the cause, this is still a kernel bug. If you use power7
instructions after ".machine power4" say, gas is correct to complain.
