GCC generates

        call    __x86.get_pc_thunk.bx
        addl    $_GLOBAL_OFFSET_TABLE_, %ebx

to load the address of _GLOBAL_OFFSET_TABLE_ into EBX with R_386_GOTPC
relocation.
