This is on a SuSE 7.2 system (uname -a = Linux admin 2.4.4-64GB-SMP #1 SMP Fri

Please let me know if there is anything else I can tell you to help you resolve 
this problem. Please note that I'm not subscribed to this list.

It seems that you have Berkeley-DB 2 installed, cfengine 2.0 requires version 3. The Suse package "db" should contain version 3.1, probably you have to install this package.
