  Hello,

  I can't test now, but I think that a solution to you problem may be:

   -using ibs=8k obs=8k instead of bs=8k   ( a different ibs should work and
only  reduce or improve performance)
       and
  -counting the  _outputed_ blocks ( I don't know if there is a way to do
this )
