Thanks for the quick turnaround. I have seen some strange results using
the MS CMD environment. Lines paste together, case insensitive sorts,
etc.

Possibly. On my computer, the file contents you gave are not sorted
according to the "C" locale.

The address you mailed, address@hidden, and the version string
suggest your system has a fairly old version of comm. (bug-coreutils now
covers the combined suite of what used to be textutils, fileutils, and
sh-utils.)
However, I'm not sure that upgrading will help here. I'd suggest sorting
both files and running comm in the same environment, and if that doesn't
work, try a newer coreutils release.
