tee doesn't adjust the data.
I'm guessing what's happening is the process
generating the colors is doing so conditionally
upon being connected to a tty.
This is fine as long as there is a way to override it.

ls --color=always | tee -
ls --color=auto | tee -


p.s. if you want to display the output logs
containing ansi color codes etc. on a web page
you can process using a tool like:
