Hi there!
Did you ever consider "inventing" a new header format to allow storing
large (> 8 GB) files? The ODC format provides only 11 octal digits to
represent the file size.
I use cpio as an export format for my backup tool
https://github.com/workflo/shaback
This is a really neat feature since it allows recovering without having
to install any kind of special software on the system to be recovered:
https://github.com/workflo/shaback/wiki/Remote-Desaster-Recovery
But the drawback so far is that I cannot recover files larger than 8 GB
this way :(
Thanks in advance,
Florian.
