Thanks! I find it very odd that two Linux distros choose two use two different defaults, don't you?

The semantics of that option is controlled at compile time by the
SVR4_COMPAT define. If defined, '-c' is the same as '-H newc'.
Otherwise, it stands for '-H odc'.
