Can you try running with cvs 1.11.6 with the following
modification. Replace the assert as follows:
Index: buffer.c
===================================================================
RCS file: /cvs/ccvs/src/buffer.c,v
retrieving revision 1.21.4.1
diff -r1.21.4.1 buffer.c
1384c1384,1394
< assert (fstat ( fileno (bc->fp), &s ) != -1);

Hopefully that will produce a core dump and you can post the
traceback and maybe that will shed light on the problem.
