Congratulations -- you've found a long-standing bug in the code. I've
just checked in a fix on the stable branch (cvs1-11-x-branch), I'll be
checking in a similar fix for the experimental branch some time soon.
An interesting side-effect of the fix is that most messages from CVS in
client/server mode now contain the real command name instead of the
generic "server" that they used to have.
