Shouldn't be a big deal.  I just created the lib project on feature
recently to parallel the UNIX build process more closely, though I
didn't do a complete job.  It should bea even easier on stable since
there is no dependency in the stable files on the error() function.

I had to provide a CVS compatible implementation of the error()
function for some of hte newer GNULIB macros, and UNIX compilers don't
mind that they can't find the function until libcvs is linked with an
executable.  Windows, on the other hand, refused to link the library
without an error() implementation within the library itself.
