hi robert,
yes, sorry, my mistake in my original message. i should have copied and pasted,
but got a bit lazy.
i am referring to "deb" instead of "dev", and not "hdb" vs "sdb"
sorry once again.

One more time ... you said it should read "/dev/sdb", but it should actually
read "/dev/hdb". In other words, the typo is "deb" for "dev", but not "hdb" for
"sdb".

"fdisk /dev/hdb    <-- partition /deb/hdb"
hi robert,
thank you for your quick response.
perhaps i am mistaken as i am new to linux and its notations, and i may be
misunderstanding a little, but i believe that particular line consists of a
command (fdisk) and then its argument (/dev/hdb), and then a description of
what that command is supposed to be doing (i.e. partitioning /dev/hdb).
so there seems to be an inconsistency, because the argument to the fdisk
command is "/dev/hdb", but the description of what it is doing indicates
"/deb/hdb" ("dev" in the command argument, but "deb" in the description).
best regards,
edwin

It isn't a typo, it's just an example. Device names depend on the operating
system and the driver.

hello antonio,
first, i'd like to say a big thank you for your work on ddrescue, lzip and
other associated software applications.
i have been a long-time windows user (not necessarily a happy one, but i play
games :) ) and have just been introduced to the world of linux as a result of a
drive failure and ddrescue. the more i learn and find out about linux, the more
i like! :)
one day, when i've learnt enough, i'd like to be able to contribute back to the
community, much like yourself.

anyhow, i was just reading through the manual for ddrescuelog, and noticed what
i believe to be a typographical error.
in "example 2" of the examples section <
https://www.gnu.org/software/ddrescue/manual/ddrescue_manual.html#Ddrescuelog
>, it says "fdisk /dev/hdb    <-- partition /deb/hdb".
i believe the "/deb/hdb" after the word "partition" is a typographical error
that should instead read "/dev/sdb".
it is minor, and don't think anyone would misunderstand, but thought i would
point out nevertheless.
thanks once again for your wonderful work!
best regards,
edwin
