I am pleased to announce the release of GNU ddrescue 1.23.

GNU ddrescue is a data recovery tool. It copies data from one file or block device (hard disc, cdrom, etc) to another, trying to rescue the good parts first in case of read errors.

GNU Ddrescuelog is a tool that manipulates ddrescue mapfiles, shows mapfile contents, converts mapfiles to/from other formats, compares mapfiles, tests rescue status, and can delete a mapfile if the rescue is done.

The homepage is at http://www.gnu.org/software/ddrescue/ddrescue.html

The sources can be downloaded from http://ftpmirror.gnu.org/ddrescue/ http://download.savannah.gnu.org/releases/ddrescue/ or from your favorite GNU mirror.

The sha256sum is:
a9ae2dd44592bf386c9c156a5dacaeeb901573c9867ada3608f887d401338d8d ddrescue-1.23.tar.lz

This release is also GPG signed. You can download the signature by appending '.sig' to the URL. If the 'gpg --verify' command fails because you don't have the required public key, then run this command to import it:

  gpg --keyserver keys.gnupg.net --recv-keys 8FE99503132D7742

Key fingerprint = 1D41 C14B 272A 2219 A739 FA4F 8FE9 9503 132D 7742

Changes in version 1.23:

* A bug has been fixed that sometimes marked the wrong block as non-scraped when running in reverse direction. (Bug introduced in 1.22). Thanks to Arthur Lesuisse for reporting this.

* The new option '--same-file' has been added. It allows infile and outfile to be the same file or device.

* The new option '--shift' has been added to ddrescuelog. It shifts the positions of all the blocks in 'mapfile' by the offset ('--output-position' - '--input-position'), and writes the resulting mapfile to standard output.

* In fill mode, the location data is now written as one line without final newline to ease finding it with simple text search tools.

  * Fill mode no longer requires a seekable infile. Commands like
  ddrescue -F- <(printf "BAD-SECTOR ") outfile mapfile
are now possible.

* The new chapter "Meaning of ddrescue's screen output" has been added to the manual.

Please send bug reports and suggestions to address@hidden
