Follow-up Comment #1, bug #25123 (project enscript):

Better late than never... (version 1.6.3+)

Do this:

cp -a /usr/share/enscript ~/.enscript

echo "StatesConfigFile: $HOME/.enscript/hl/enscript.st
StatesPath: $HOME/.enscript/hl
LibraryPath: $HOME/.enscript" >> .enscriptrc

cp ~/.enscript/hl/style_emacs.st ~/.enscript/hl/style_mine.st

$EDITOR ~/.enscript/hl/style_mine.st # to use your favoite colors
# *** also rename the state from style_emacs to style_mine

(oh, you'll need to add any new color names/RGB definitions to
~/.enscript/enscript.st)

finally use this to test it:
enscript -q -E --color --style=mine --language=ansi -o /dev/tty myfile
