I think that problem is fixed, wither in 4.1.20 or in CVS - certainly
I seem to remember fixing a very similar problem some time back.

CVS.
http://savannah.gnu.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs/findutils/findutils/locate/locate.c.diff?r1=1.11&r2=1.12
               thanks, cu andreas

I must come clean;)

That was my last patch.

Last i looked, the patch had been accepted on savannah:
  http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?group=findutils

I downloaded 4.1 from ftp://mirror.aarnet.edu.au/pub/gnu/findutils/
but it wouldn't compile. Nor did it have the patch.

A poster told me to get 4.1.20 from ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/findutils/
(or cvs), so i got 4.1.20. It didn't have the patch either.
I thought it had been lost, but didn't realize it was still in cvs
and not yet released. sorry;) Next time i work on locate.c i'll try
and add pattern searching capability for the whole directory path.
