Thanks. As the program appears not to be interacting with the OS,
"ltrace" may prove to be more useful than strace, since it also
includes calls to shared library functions.

The problem with an incomplete bug report is that I simply have no way
of making headway on the problem. Has anybody else on the list ever
seen a similar problem?
