IMHO, GNU's AWK implementation isn't as useful as it could be because it
doesn't expose wcwidth(3). It all comes down to developers' time,
preferences and priorities. Either way, I posted the code so other
people seeking the same functionality can find it. I'm not asking that
it be committed to GAWK codebase.
