Thank you for the report and patches.
I was doubting whether the behaviour you describe is already present in the
first (among many) Solaris 10 release. Apparently yes, according to the
documentation:

Thank you. I took essentially your patch.

Thank you. This patch is probably good as well, but less frequently useful: If
someone upgrades from Solaris 9 to Solaris 10, he should have done it by now.
Since it adds 20 lines of additional complexity, I prefer to get away without
it.
