Does the problem occur with the current gmp (3.1.1)? You might want
to upgrade if you can. (Not that I know anything about ssh and
whether upgrading would be easy or hard.)

That sounds suspicious. If a binary fails on just one machine that'd
suggest the machine at fault perhaps. Do the gmp test program
binaries also come out idential and run differently?
