problems with gmp-4.1.2

I installed gmp-4.1.2 on a redhat-linux-8.0 x86 system with gcc-3.2 and
all the default configure settings.

The first problem is that t-bswap fails with a segfault.

I then tried
./configure --enable-profiling=gprof --enable-mpfr
and compiling my application I get lots of problems like:

/usr/local/lib/libmpfr.a(add1.o): In function `mpfr_add1':
/home/install/gmp-4.1.2/mpfr/add1.c:46: undefined reference to
/home/install/gmp-4.1.2/mpfr/add1.c:546: undefined reference to
`__gmp_tmp_free'/home/install/gmp-4.1.2/mpfr/add1.c:60: undefined reference
to `__gmp_tmp_alloc'/home/install/gmp-4.1.2/mpfr/add1.c:53: undefined
reference to `__gmp_tmp_alloc'

It seems that mpfr is not compatible with the enable-alloca setting.
How do I fix this? I need both enabled.
