Memory management in GMP

Hi all,

sorry if this is off-toppic, because it is not related to an error.
Are there any libraries or sources which define memory management
functions to optimize GMP?
I am using a lot of mod-exp calculations like in the fermat test. It
looks as if GMP produces a lot of memory management overhead in my
program. I would like to test if I can reduce that. Of course I could
define my own memory management functions, but I wonder if there are
already some optimized (for GMP) functions which I could use.
