When I had to add fields, most of it was pretty straightforward.
I grepped around to find where the fields were mentioned, and added
them in.  The really nasty part was when management demanded that
one field be added to the index, since that part of the Gnats 3.111
code is not straightforward.

If you're comfortable hacking the source code, you could try it and
see if it works.  Maybe things will break and maybe they won't.

Sounds nice, but some people would prefer not to run beta software
on production systems.  Modifying the source to get what you need
may be the better way.
