Not really. He wanted an encyclopedia that is pretty
much the same as we are making. The "openess" would
come from no central, editorial control, and keeping
it all under the GFDL. Its just that we now prefer not
to be thought of as an encyclopedia because that
infers some editorship, when thats not what RMS said.
But he was very explicit about keeping it all under
the GDFL. A protest against the idea of charging for
intellectual property. We could, if Hector & RMS okay
it, and most want it, have external links (with the
disclaimer redirection cgi-script like somebody
mentioned), with the risk of linking to material
outside of the GFDL, but I disagree with it. If we do
it, we also have to make the redirection CGI look for
the page linked to, check if its there, and if it
isn't then flag it so the link is removed by person
(in case the server is just down or something).
