My very uncompetent guess is that it is rather problem with xboard but
can you make sure that the problem doesn't happen with 5.05 or with
5.06 with pondering turned off (xboard -xponder)? My second guess
(very uncompetent too :-) is that it could be somehow related to
pondering (introduced in 5.06).

I can't reproduce it here (xboard-4.2.6, gnuchess-5.06, Mandrake 8.2
Linux on athlon CPU).
