    OK, who's the j**koff who made compiling C programs come up with a mess of
    reverse video escape sequences (^]33 whatever) ("helpful error 
highlighting")
    right there in the innocent *compilation* buffer here on Mandrake 7.2?

If you want any action to be taken on a bug report, put your priority
on clearly describing the observed facts, rather than on expressing
your disgust.  If you don't show the output you got, and the input you
used to produce it, it takes extra work just to figure out what issue
you're so exercised about.

And show some gratitude for the work that the Emacs developers do, if
you want them to listen to you.  If I were still the Emacs maintainer,
I would not go the extra millimeter to understand a person who had
just cursed at me.

So please read the Bugs section of the Emacs manual, and then send a
proper bug report, without insults, and with useful information.  I am
sure the developers will try to decide what is the right thing to do
here, once you enable them to do so efficiently.
