I thought it was my 'pr' command cause it also prints wrong, but
why would it work in xemacs and not in emacs. BTW xemacs has its own

I found /usr/share/emacs/20.7/lisp/ps-print.elc

it says:

;;; Compiled by gerd@gerd.segv.de on Mon Jun 12 21:37:19 2000
;;; from file /u2/emacs-20.7/lisp/ps-print.el
;;; in Emacs version 20.7.1
;;; with bytecomp version 2.56
;;; with all optimizations.

This is very strange: this version works without any problems for me
in Emacs 20.

What text did you try to pretty-print? Did it have any non-ASCII
