I use "misc 10x20" font normally, with dark green background, white
foreground and khaki cursor colors (and without a blinking cursor). I set
these in my .Xresources file. Under these circumstances I never get a
cursor in emacs 21.1. If I remove all references to .emacs from my
.Xresources, I get a cursor on the default font only.

Oddly, I also get a disappearing cursor in emacs 20.7, but under different
circumstances. In that program, if I start the program with `-q' and
remove all references to emacs in my .Xresources file, the default font
causes the cursor to disappear. Using any other "misc" font causes the
cursor to reappear, and it stays there even if you switch back to the
default font. When I set my preferences in the .Xresources file I always
get a cursor in 20.7.

Is it a bad idea to use the .Xresources file to set emacs options?

Thanks,

Mike
