dired default Feature request

From: С.Б.Покровский
Subject: dired default Feature request

This bug report will be sent to the Free Software Foundation,
not to your local site managers!
Please write in English, because the Emacs maintainers do not have
translators to read other languages for them.

Your bug report will be posted to the bug-gnu-emacs@gnu.org mailing list,
and to the gnu.emacs.bug news group.

In GNU Emacs 21.1.1 (sparc-sun-solaris2.8, X toolkit)
 of 2001-10-29 on mpk-6

...

Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug:

Presently trying to delete (or copy) a directory via dired produces

,----
| 1 of 1 deletion failed--type ? for details
`----

while moving is done without any warning whatsoever.
I suggest that both

dired-recursive-deletes and
dired-recursive-copies

should default to 'top. IMHO this is much more common behavior for a
file manager (e.g. MidnightCommander, M$ Windows Explorer), it is more
convenient as sufficiently safe (the user is asked to confirm the
action).

OTOH, I failed to find the variables in question by
`h-i recursive delete' or `h-i dired recursive'
(it is there for `h-i dired-recursive'). If changing the defaults is
judged unacceptable, I suggest that `recursive delete', `recursive
copy' and `dired recursive' be entered into the info index.
