The earlier information I posted was for TERM=linux. The ansi crash
looks similar (same message). Here is the backtrace:

I haven't got a clue! I think it's already been answered elsewhere

However I recommended that he try again after upgrading his termcap
and ncurses packages to those that ship with RH7.2, and after doing so
he says that it no longer crashes, so perhaps the problem was not
emacs fault after all.
