bug#38: No coding system used for environment variables bug#93: 23.0.60; Can't start emacs when filename contains national character bug closed, send any further explanations to Jason Rumney <jasonr@gnu.org>
AFAICT the coding system problem for environment variables is still there, resulting in some buffers getting an incorrect current-directory containing escape sequences which they cannot save into if HOME contains non-ASCII characters (Emacs does start up now though). I also have doubts about some of the font bugs, there have been a lot of changes recently, and while they may have fixed some problems, other problems seem to have just shifted to other backends that weren't previously affected.
