It'd be good to have more of them in ~/.emacs.d by default, but
currently you can use

> ~/.emacs.d/.emacs

~/.emacs.d/init.el instead

> ~/.emacs.d/.emacs.desktop
> ~/.emacs.d/.emacs.desktop.lock

and desktop-base-(file|lock)-name to assign these.
