This is not true, it shoujld also work if you do

   emacsclient -a '' <blablabla>
   emacsclient --alternate-editor '' ...
   emacsclient --alternate-editor= ...

> On the same Info page an example is given this way:
> 'EDITOR="emacsclient --alternate-editor emacs +%d %s"'
> I think it should be:
> 'EDITOR="emacsclient --alternate-editor=emacs +%d %s"'

Either way should work,
