bug#9049: 24.0.50; rectangle copy to register followed by insert-registe

From: Eric S Fraga
Subject: bug#9049: 24.0.50; rectangle copy to register followed by insert-register does not work at all
Date: Mon, 11 Jul 2011 09:06:07 +0100
User-agent: Gnus/5.110018 (No Gnus v0.18) Emacs/24.0.50 (gnu/linux)

This bug report will be sent to the Free Software Foundation,
not to your local site managers!
Please write in English if possible, because the Emacs maintainers
usually do not have translators to read other languages for them.

Please check that the From: line gives an address where you can be reached.
Your report will be posted to the address@hidden mailing list
and the gnu.emacs.bug news group, and at http://debbugs.gnu.org.

Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug. If you can, give
a recipe starting from `emacs -Q':

I am trying to copy a rectangle of text. I normally set a mark, move
the cursor, then copy-rectangle-to-register, move somewhere else and
finally insert-register. When I try this with the version of emacs
24.0.50 I am using (Julien Danjou's Debian snapshot dated 20110628 but
this has been the case for quite a few iterations of 24.0.50...), I get

insert-register: Register does not contain text

Starting with emacs -Q, I can reproduce this by simply moving the cursor
up a couple of lines, set the mark, move the cursor to the right and
down a line or two, C-x r r a, move the cursor to the end, M->, and try
to insert the register, C-x r i a.

If Emacs crashed, and you have the Emacs process in the gdb debugger,
please include the output from the following gdb commands:
    `bt full' and `xbacktrace'.
